2018-2019

Foundations of Modern Europe
Omeka Exhibit

This class project was my first introduction to digital storytelling at Carleton. My exhibit was a collection of 10 items from 1500-1700 depicting a theme prevalent in early modern Europe. The collection I created was about reason, dominant ideologies, and the eventual creation of a public opinion. This collaborative project taught me the steps of creating a digital exhibit from conceptual design, to research and metadata, to visualization and organization.

Historians for Hire
Coursework

Historians for Hire is a course based on public scholarship. All projects in the class were project-based and worked with partners in the Northfield community. This course taught many foundations for digital public scholarship, including best practices for oral histories and metadata image descriptions. I worked on digital public scholarship skill building through a project with the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind in which I helped put yearbook photo descriptions into a digital archive.

Digital Foundations
Coursework

Digital Foundations, the intro class for cinema and media studies, teaches you skills necessary for audio and visual storytelling. Projects included videos that I planned, shot, and edited on Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro.

Intro to Computer Science
Final Project

This course taught coding skills and logical thinking, and as a final project, we designed and coded a map of Olympic medal winners.

Environment & Society
Blog

Environment & Society teaches many foundational skills for environmental studies. Throughout the course, all the students created a blog to practice talking about environmental issues in digital spaces in an accessible and interesting way.

2019-2020

SCOPE Program
Northfield History Project

The SCOPE program through Carleton’s history department allowed me to better my oral history skills by teaching middle school students how to conduct oral history interviews. We created curriculum and digital resources for the students to use and practice with before the interviews, putting to use the skills I learned in Historians for Hire.

American Television History
Coursework

The history of American television offers a fascinating lens to explore popular storytelling methods and the history of digital media. My final paper for this course critically examines the role of the sitcom in teen culture and counterculture since the 1950s.

Intro to Statistics
Hass Avocado Statistical Analysis

My final project of this class was a statistical analysis and report about changes in avocado consumption over time. We were able to utilize a dataset to run statistical tests and reflect on connections between the data and trends in globalization and global supply chains.

Hacking the Humanities
Coursework

Hacking the Humanities was the core DGAH class I took. The course focused on practicing a wide range of digital humanities skills including web development, metadata, mapping, 3D modeling, text analysis, and data visualization. My final project was a text analysis of Carleton convocation descriptions.

Studio Filmmaking
Coursework

Due to COVID-19, this upper level CAMS class shifted its focus from studio filmmaking to experimental filmmaking. I was able to continue building skills in shooting and editing while also critically reflecting on the form and function of experimental art and film practices. My final project was a short film exploring family history and my connection to nature.

Global Religions in Minnesota
ReligionsMN Project

This course culminated with designing and creating a Wordpress website page about the different ways religions in Minnesota interact with water. The page was not published, but I learned many skills such as digital public history writing styles, research and metadata techniques, and website design.

I was part of a summer research opportunity that allowed me to further practice my skills in digital public history writing styles, research and metadata techniques, and website design. I primarily focused on editing and adding visuals to ReligionMN webpages.

LACOL Digital Humanities
Campus Climate Action Project

This introductory summer course taught me many basics of digital humanities, and used digital feminism as its frame and foundational theory. The final project was a timeline and textual analysis of climate action of Vassar College, Hamilton College, and Carleton College. It was interesting to change and manipulate sources from digital archives into new digital forms that offered new information and comparisons.

Sustainable Northfield
Podcast

As an intern for the City of Northfield, I was a collaborator for the podcast project Sustainable Northfield, a podcast focused on making sustainability education interesting and accessible to everyone. I organized, hosted, and edited episodes about various sustainability topics.

News Stories
Coursework

The practice and history of journalism is an important part of digital media, and this course offered weekly workshops on journalistic writing. My final project was an article highlighting textual analysis and data visualization of social media posts regarding Line 3 pipeline construction.

2021-2022

Sustainable Agriculture Study Abroad Program
Citizen Science Essay

My independent study project while abroad in Italy on a sustainable agriculture program was a critical reflection on citizen science. I used case studies in Italy to look at trends in digital public scholarship in environmental studies and ecology and how the Italian government supports citizen science as a means to reach sustainability goals.

Chinese Cinema
Final Essay

This course reflected on modern Chinese history through Chinese films. My final paper in this course critically examines digital surveillance and artistic expression in an experimental film by a popular Chinese artist.

Music From Argentina
Podcast

My final project for this course was a podcast for which I designed a three episode arc, interviewed a musician from Argentina, and edited the audio. This project allowed me to use the skills I have learned about oral histories and interviews while creating a story in a creative form.

2022-2023

Campus Waste Contamination
Research Project

Coursework in this class focused on building skills in survey administration and analysis . We worked on data visualization and statistical analysis to design and analyze a survey about waste contamination on Carleton’s campus. We used computational methods (statistical analysis) in addition to more typical research methods.

Foraging in Minnesota and Italy
Research Project

Carleton’s Larson International Fellowship allowed me to pursue an independent research project over the summer of 2022. I researched foraging in Minnesota and Tuscany, Italy and will display what I learned in the form of an online cookbook that combines actual recipes, research on the history and cultural implications of foraging, and my experiences while doing this project. This storytelling project will use web design skills focused on curation.

Anchor Publishing
Podcast Guide

As a CCCE Food & Environmental Justice Fellow, I created guides for Anchor, a podcast editing and publishing site, and general podcasting information for others to use as they create podcast projects.

Lighten Up Sale
Website

Through my position as a CCCE Fellow, I helped create a website and system for an online sale of students’ donated items. I collaborated with other Fellows to organize and set up the WordPress website and facilitate sales and online communication.

RAVE Podcast
